For the last few months I have been using an amazing plugin for the WordPress plugin called Advanced Custom Fields. This plugin has transformed the way I build WordPress websites giving the client much more control of the content.
Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) allows for additional arbitrary ‘fields’ to be added to a page or post, all of which are editable through the normal WordPress management platform. So for example, if the homepage has a slideshow, main content area and row of images, then instead of using multiple plugins where the client would have to access independently, all of these ‘fields’ are editable through the normal ‘edit page’ screen for the homepage.
For example, on a website I built recently for a holiday cottage management business, the client required each cottage to have an individual page with relevant details such as a slideshow, photo gallery, features list etc. A typical cottage page looks like this: Holiday Cottage in Fowey. Using ACF, I was able to set up the ‘edit post’ screen in a way that each section (i.e. slideshow/gallery etc.) was manageable through a single interface. ACF makes it very easy to build complex page layouts that are completely manageable by the client through this single interface. Amazing plugin – well done ACF!
